Did You Know...?
Jane, Abe and Stephen Were Here.
Cedarville is the home of Jane Addams, an internationally famous humanitarian and social-work pioneer who founded Chicago’s Hull house, and was the first female to win the Nobel Peace Prize. Visit her museum, located in an 1889 school building in Cedarville, featuring a permanent exhibit honoring this trailblazer.
Experience the second of the famous debates between Abraham Lincoln, the Republican candidate for the United States Senate from Illinois, and incumbent Senator Stephen Douglas, the Democratic Party candidate, by visiting Debate Square in Freeport. It was at this site on August 27, 1858, that the Freeport Doctrine, an important statement regarding slavery and state’s rights, was proclaimed. We are…history.
A Little Brew…and a #1 Chew
Recently voted the #1 Best Beef Burger in the state by the Illinois Beef Association, Pearl City’s local eatery, Route No. 73 Brew & Chew, offers a selection of signature hand-packed burgers made fresh from locally raised, 100% pure beef. Besides juicy burgers, they also have sandwiches and daily specials - like their infamous California Street Tacos that were featured on "Where the Locals Eat," on WREX TV 13 News. They also feature an all-you-can-eat fish fry on Friday nights, locally raised pork for their pulled pork sandwiches, as well a great selection of local and worldly craft beers. We are…recognized.
If You Build It
Hit one out of the park when you stop by Little Cubs Field in Freeport. This detailed, scale-model replica of Wrigley Field, includes ivy-covered brick for outfield walls - grown from actual Wrigley Field ivy cuttings and a hand-painted, crowd-scene mural below the scoreboard. Wrigley bleacher seats, as well as authentic dugouts make this a must-see on your stop in Stephenson County. This decade-old field is used for our littlest baseball players in Little League, as well as for parents, grandparents, and anyone else who wants to run the bases in a ball field about one-third the size of Wrigley Field. To date, visitors from over 40 countries and every state in the union have come to see our own field of dreams. We are…local.
